Preliminary trial page of my own "Art" and some of my collected art of others.
Art = paintings, prints, etchings, cartoons, sculpture, music. photos and findings!
Also it may include acting, dancing, writing, trivia, pottery and quick impressions!
So, what is art? What are Crafts? Cooking is an art but is it art?
**
These family and friends' pages are essentially non political but since art embraces
political cartoons, I have included some of my own work herein.
**
Art has been used to protest war as in Picasso's "Guernica" and as political
propaganda such as Maulden's views of GI's in WW-2 and Coca Cola ads by
James Montgomery Flagg showing GI's sitting and sharing Cokes with pretty ladies!
It is said "a picture is worth a thousand words" and a quick look "poster effect"
cartoon might be worth 10,000 words!
*
Whether my "art" is art or not is not for me to judge. Some like it fat, some like it lean.
Some like it hot, some like it cold!  And some like it in a pot ten days old!
*
Art is what you make it out to be!
To be trite: "Art is in the eye of the beholder."
Likewise, one man's trash is another man's treasure!
*
Way back in the "roaring 20s" there were "funny sheet "cartoons like the Toonerville Trolly to
entertain the public since there were few movies and no tv. Americans were  uplifted
by the Keystone Kops' making fools of themselves. See my own version here!
**

**
Just put whatever name you wish onto the Kops and the stinging wasp they cannot hit!
That is a prime example of "Quick Look" poster effect cartoon worth 10,000 words!
**

Part of The Night Predator Owl JWW's former 278 Belvedere Road, Florida art studio!
*
Call it what you will, but my "poster effect" cartoon below - as I said - with
or without words, may be worth not 1000 words but 10,000 words!
It expresses what happens to both sides when when folks make
any war, whether defensive of offensive against others.

Large "Marching" protests anti-war poster in ink on cardboard by JWW

*
A good story is well worth repeating in somber black and white!
This is what happens when folks end up dead. Therefore, I'd do my
best to avoid it as long as I can by not doing doing dumb things!
**

*
Buried in these mountains of Vermont lie the dust and bones of many tragic love affairs!
JWW Oil painting depicting Owls Head Mountain and rising Green Peak of Mt Aeolus.
Inspired by old epitaph, a large green frog and my everloving dog's devotion!

***

"Bailout Bush," GHW "daddy" Bush left 2 of his crew to die in WW-2.
Going to sea and then flying in "the war" I learned Captain is last man out!
But I wasn't there smelling smoke and getting a bit toasty hot!
In wars, both the saints and sinners often end up dead!
****

Black Sheep Jolly Uncle John AKA JWW Says Bush is a sow!
And being born on a farm, raised on a farm and taking care of animals
I learned all, or mostly all about animals and their behavior.

Owls Head Hill first light.Oil by JWW
This is a small version and does not show the morning sun very well
on Owl's Head as the larger edition does. Coming home from coffee
downtown at the Quality, the brilliant golden light  on the mountains
and the field led me to scribble a sketch and notations to create an
espressive "impression" painting.
*

Large bisque sculpture of Marie Antoinette (?) by DeLamballe
Private collection of Jolly Uncle John, The Night Predator Owl
and alleged "Black Sheep" of the family!

*

Quickie study in oil of an onion before being chopped for chillie by JWW
*
Did you ever have a great dream and wish you could relive it or keep it alive?
Before the image fades completely, either go and live it or paint it!

***
When not airborne otherwise, Jolly Uncle John, the Night Predator Owl will fly
with ducks, geese and swans. Once upon a time as a swan flying to escape the cold,
he spied a beautiful nymph bathing sans a suit in the warm southern ocean waters.
She waved as he flew overhead. Joining her, he could not resist her charms nor
escape from her arms so both remained love-locked in an eternal warm embrace!
Birds of a feather and those with dreams flock together! As I sat watching swans
on a Centerport pond and painted an early plein-air watercolor, an "old man" from
the little house by the pondside said, "You're piddling! Paint the idea which first
struck you! Paint the sound of the buoy bell, the fog horn and the dream in your
mind, your heart and your soul." The man was Arthur Dove back during WW-2
as I was between trips flying warplanes overseas to help rid the world of Hitler.
